How could I be so foolish To think it wouldn’t come to this Every time I go out with these two I seem to always end up ditched Sure it starts off OK I guess But then they up and find a pond or lake Then it’s heck with Red, let’s play fetch instead Now I gotta fend for myself, so Fetch me a margarita Why do I hang out with these fools Fetch me a margarita These two got the smarts of a puddle of drool <fiddle solo> Now they’re coming back around Maybe we’ll finally get to hang All of a sudden time for another round Should have known it’d be the same ol’ thing I love to hike and relax in the woods But they’re just too distracted I guess They’re just all wet and I’d surely bet That they’ll just make another mess, so Fetch me a margarita Why do I keep doing this to myself Fetch me a margarita Ol’ red just ends up on the shelf Fetch me a margarita Maybe at least throw me a bone Fetch me a margarita I think it’s time to go home… Fetch me a margarita Why do I hang out with these fools Fetch me a margarita These two got the smarts of a puddle of drool

Intro (spoken:) Finished with his margarita, Red waits for the others to rejoin for an afternoon hike, but they insist on staying by the water and splashing around. Miffed, Red wanders off and happens upon a flask of bourbon probably dropped by a group of hikers who have long disappeared. He takes a squirt and, fueled by a newfound liquid courage, sets off up the trail up the hill surrounding the lake. It’s beautiful but can be treacherous due to the numerous rattlesnakes. At first he’s resolute and charges forward, but as the day wears on, he begins to have second thoughts… Verse 1: Sippin’ on this margarita, bottom of the glass is comin’ in sight At the rate my friends are going I’m just gonna be sittin’ here until the night Look here’s a flask of booze, let’s say what the hell Gonna mozy right on up this steep rocky trail Chorus: Devil’s Lake whiskey bound Got my 4 feet on the ground Devil’s Lake whiskey bound The other 2 ain’t comin’ round Got to get away and clear my head for a while The rattlesnakes are deadly but the Turkey is wild Devil’s Lake…whiskey bound Verse 2: Well hey this ain’t so bad, the view is really something from this rock But those no-good friends of mine are still right down there hanging by the dock Still I keep walking on despite lurking threats Another squirt of courage and I’m sure I’ll have no regrets Chorus Guitar Solo End Chorus: Devil’s Lake whiskey bound Got my 4 feet on the ground Devil’s Lake whiskey bound Why won’t the other two come around The darkness is looming and I think I’ve gone wrong The rattlesnakes are rattlin’ and the Turkey’s all gone Devil’s Lake…

Verse 1 Been on this trail chasing my tail Wonderin’ why my friends weren’t comin’ round Those rattlesnakes in the rocks were gettin’ agitated, I’m frustrated You know it’s not a really encouraging sound I’m really hoping that they’ll come looking round here to find me ‘Cos we’ll be back together and then everything will be better Chorus The best of friends, until the end There is nothing better to be found A sweet reunion, there’s no confusion There’ll be margaritas all around Verse 2 What’s that I hear, the cries of cheer I can feel my little spirit start to lift And here they come, in a happy run Now let’s just forget all ‘bout this rift Let’s all just go back on down to the shore Let’s break out the limes and the tequila and more! Chorus Bridge These two can drive me right plum crazy What’s a dog like me to do? But in the end we are inseparable So let’s raise a glass, hell the humans can have one too! Solo Repeat chorus 2X

about

It all started with a funny picture my wife Liz took of our Lab and her two friends Red the Chihuahua and Ody from a hike. A photographer friend saw the picture and joked that it looked like an album cover, and he added the text as a joke. Liz suggested the idea of having me write and produce a few songs (from the perspective of Red the Chihuahua!), with the only stipulation being that the title cut be "country with extra twang." Wait...a honey-do project that involves holing up in my studio? Gotta jump on that one hahaha! She thought it might make a fun fundraising thing for Czar's Promise, a charity that raises funds for canine and human cancer research - www.czarspromise.com - and so I got to work. Special thanks to Chris Mittlesteadt of Artists Alive Inc. and Eclipse Band (a Pink Floyd tribute I play in) for contributing some really fine fiddle parts for the title cut. Extra twang coming right up!

I'm releasing this as a name-your-price release, but if you like it please consider donating to Czar's Promise on their website:

events.czarspromise.com/donate

So follow along with Red and his easily-distracted friends as they hike, play in the water, and drink margaritas. (Actually, they don't really drink but my wife and her coworkers have been known to indulge a margarita or three!)

Thank you for listening and for supporting Czar's Promise! Enjoy!
